Rain brings fruit

Every year we enjoy the rain and how it brings fruit. Our trees in our backyard produce mangoes, avocados and guavas. A few more weeks and we will have avocados falling everyday. Our neighbor has a big mango tree that leans over our bedroom roof. Thank goodness the season is almost over because it is kind of unnerving to have mangoes falling during the middle of the night landing and making a big "thunk" sound which then in turn makes the dogs bark.

I am not complaining here just wanted to give you an idea of what the rain brings. Our neighbors lives at the boarder in Tijana. The only times they are are here is during carnival and maybe two different weeks of the year. So when their mangoes fall they stay there. This produces a mass amount of fruit flies. Our kitchen becomes a battle ground between fruit flies and regular flies and bug spray and fly swatters for a good three months. We just had an exterminator come yesterday. This  morning when we got up, no flies what so ever. It is nice feeling to be fly free for at least a moment.

Just last week we had two different days of rain with more than 5 inches of rain. That is a lot of rain. It makes everything grow.

Speaking of growing, when we got home we enjoyed having our three bible school students home for vacation. They jumped right in to ministry while we were away. They were leading the bible study, youth group and even started sharing at church on Sunday mornings. What I sensed when I first went to the youth group was a desire to learn how to do practical evangelism. So  we decided to go through the Way of the Master video course. We are only 4 videos into it but already, I have seen some starting putting it in to practice. It is something that you can teach but until that person decides to share their faith with others, there is nothing you can do. We are encouraged to be seeing the growth of our young people.

Good intentions

Hello to you all who visit our blog. These past few days, I have good intentions of posting here. Last week, Jessie and I sat down to work through my schedule. It is hard thing to do, to put down into words what a Pastor/Missionary does on a weekly basis. It was an eye opening experience for us. My time is filled. From various different things through out the week like preparing my sermon for Sundays, weekly bible study, various errands for the church, coffee house and family, disciplining people and not to mention being a husband and father. I am learning to be more selective on when I meet with people.  Before it was more sporadic. I am finding though, having things written down is less stressful trying to remember everything. I have at times have tried to stick to a schedule but couldn't hold on to it very long. I am now trying to get more organized as I am dealing with a group coming down in September, plus a huge painting project at the center.

This past week, I had the opportunity to meet with a young guy from church about going to school. Just talking through some of the benefits and disadvantages of going off to school, what it came down to was that if he was to go back to his home town where he would study, he would be pulled back into the partying scene he had come out of. To stay in Autlan, he could study as well but be surround by brothers and sisters in Christ who would help him deep his walk with the Lord. It is more difficult way to walk but more beneficial in the long run. He has come to know the Lord in the last year so there are still tendency to return back to the way of life before. This is an important time in his life. Please continue to pray for him as God draws him closer to Himself.

We are back

Hello again. I am sorry it has been to long since last posting. I am not going to make any excuses. Ok maybe just one, life is busy when visiting family. We returned back to Mexico almost two weeks ago now. It has been nice to get back into a regular schedule. We are still in the catch-up mode as there are many things to get done after being gone for some time.

The rain is now upon us, which means more work for me. Our home has a tile roof which sometimes leaks, so I had to cover up certain areas with black plastic. Then there is the cleaning out of the gutters. This a continued process as our neighbor has a mango tree that hangs over part of our roof. Fresh mango is great to have but when it has been rotting away clogging up the gutters not the most pleasant job to accomplish.

The ministry has starting picking up again. Just yesterday, Jessie took Laura and Jonathan to visit their mom who has moved back to Autlan. Talking with Jessie about it this morning, the biggest reason is our her kids we different during the Easter retreat that she attended with them. She could see the difference in the way that three of the kids were talking about how God had changed them. She said that she would be at our bible study tonight as well as church on Sunday. The biggest thing that Jessie notice was the lack of truth when she talked about God. We look forward to seeing what God has in-store for this family.

Please be praying for us as we are also dealing with a young man who has left our church. It is has been a difficult situation.
